GERALD PAVALKO - MOTION ANIMATION CONDUCTOR

Photography by Sam Bortnick

Gerald’s vision of patterns, layers, and motion came to him long before the advent of computers—years ahead of his time. Fascinated by the structural beauty and fluidity of motion, he turned his obsession into a lifelong pursuit.

When he first began exploring digital art, he devoured Photoshop books, determined to master the tools of his time. When books and teachers insisted his ideas couldn’t be realized, he embraced the challenge and pushed the boundaries of possibility.

His dream was always to teach his techniques to someone someday. The works you see today are the unexpected yet joyous results of years of experimentation, a culmination of his visionary process and techniques. In his collage-style pieces, he drew inspiration from a variety of sources—Dover books, antique photographs, and his own imagination—bringing together elements that felt both timeless and innovative.

Some of his finest pieces emerged in the last two years of his life, at the age of 80 and 81. In his final months, he asked that we share his work with the world, ensuring that his two decades of dedication to artistic innovation would not be forgotten.

Today, we honor his life, passion, and extraordinary talent, sharing his vision with you and keeping his artistic magic alive.
