About Ligatura Guise
Ligatura Guise is a company that brings disparate elements together. Gerald chose this name because it embodies his approach to his art. The meaning of the name is conveyed most clearly when viewing the entrancing animations he has created.
Ligature in general means to be bound or stitched together. In typography a ligature is when two letters are touching. In music it is when two or more notes are performed in a single gesture. In Gerald’s work he intentionally seeks new ways to merge images. At times one image serves as a pattern through which another is viewed as they both glide in various directions.
Guise refers to the mask that covers what is beneath. Through these masks, and in the case of Gerald’s work, through the layers of patterns and a dazzling choreography of keystrokes, new expressions may become discovered.
